We celebrated our wedding anniversary by visiting the Oudebosch Eco Cabins in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve managed by Cape Nature. Around a 2 hour drive from Cape Town, this is a perfect location to escape the city (but you need to book well in advance). There are only 5 cabins at the moment (we were in Everlasting Daisy), but they’ve just started with Phase 2, which will see the construction of 8 additional cabins.

They’re beautifully designed wooden cabins with a camouflaging roof garden, waterless composting toilets, an indoor wood-burning stove and a shared naturally filtered eco plunge pool. The cabins are simply but stylishly designed and what we loved is that they are equipped with a good quality kettle, stove, microwave and toaster and have all the crockery and cutlery you need. Bedrooms have extra fleecy blankets for winter and the bathrooms are gorgeously tiled and spacious.

We woke up each morning with the sun slowly lighting up the surrounding mountains, to the sounds of the gushing Palmiet River. We hiked a few of the surrounding trails through the pristine fynbos of the area and we felt rather Snow White-ish with all the little birds and creatures that came to visit us. What a treat to see a mongoose, many dassies and even a little klipspringer one evening – we feel thoroughly spoilt and muchly recharged.
