Inverroche was the first craft gin in South Africa, to the best of our knowledge. It was certainly the first we were introduced to and it made a massive impact the first time we tasted the range, and this was before we heard Lorna Scott’s story and how she started the brand. Inverroche Amber always has a place in our selection – it’s definitely in our favourite top 3. With their distillery based in Stilbaai, we hadn’t been able to visit before. But when we recently visited Knysna for their annual cycle tour, we decided this was the perfect opportunity to visit.
It’s best to book a tour or tasting in advance. The tour and tasting combo takes about an hour and costs R70 per person. The staff are so sweet and friendly and conduct a delightful little tour. And the tasting is wonderful, introducing us for the first time to their 7 year aged Rum (delicious) as well as their brandy liqueur (Botanique) which we tried in a champagne cocktail. After the tour and tasting we lounged about their little gin garden for a while longer before hitting the road again, filled with dreams of returning to attend their Gin School. That will be amazing!
